Welcome to New Milford
Fairfield County Connecticut
New Milford was originally settled in 1707 and
incorporated in 1712. It has the largest area of any town in the state.
The area abounds in natural beauty and “hometown” atmosphere. Candlewood
Lake helps make the town a summer destination for artists and
celebrities. New Milford’s main street shopping district boasts a quaint
village atmosphere of specialty shops, gourmet restaurants, craft shops,
and cafes. The many local parks, along with a public golf course, hiking
trails, cross country skiing, camping, and boating at nearby state parks
and preservations all provide access to the area’s recreational
abundance. Along with an excellent public school system, residents have
the option of a private education at The Canterbury School. New Milford
has been ranked by Connecticut Magazine (2005) as the number three town
in its size category.
