Welcome to Redding
Fairfield County Connecticut
This peaceful rural community in the heart of
Fairfield County was first settled in 1642 and incorporated in 1767. If
you are interested in small-town life, Redding is the town. Most
shopping opportunities are outside of town. According to the Connecticut
Magazine (2005), Redding is the number one town in its size category.
Redding has a slight edge in the performance of its students
(exemplary), its crime rate (minuscule) and the state of its local
economy (robust). Redding is also committed to maintaining open space,
and preserving its historical and natural resources. Samuel Clemens,
known as Mark Twain to his readers, moved to Redding when he was 73 and
encouraged the founding of the town’s library, which today bears his pen
name. Enchanted by the town’s tranquil beauty, other writers, artists
and celebrities from the entertainment world have also made Redding
their home.
