Welcome to Weston
Fairfield County Connecticut
Weston was incorporated in 1787. During the Civil
War, Weston was a busy crossroad for agriculture and small-scale
manufacturing. With the advent of steam power, the hub of manufacturing
gradually shifted to Bridgeport and New York City, leaving Weston once
again a rural New England town. With the completion of Merritt
Parkway in 1940 and the improvement of railroad travel (Westport and
Wilton), it became easier to commute from Weston. Artists moved there to
take advantage of the simpler and more attractive country life now
accessible in just an hour’s travel from New York City. Weston adopted
two-acre residential zoning in 1953, limiting the commercial development
to a small but convenient area known as Weston Center There are no
condominiums, apartment houses or corporate offices. Weston is the ideal
town for those seeking a quiet New England atmosphere with easy access
to major urban centers.
